Laurel, MD — The 5th Annual African Heritage Festival will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Laurel Park Racetrack, marking a major milestone in one of the region’s largest cultural gatherings centered on African heritage, tradition, and community.
Hosted by the Anne Arundel County African Diaspora Affairs, the festival began as a grassroots cultural initiative and has grown into a regional tradition. Each year, thousands of residents from Maryland, DC, and Virginia gather to engage with a wide range of offerings—from fashion and wellness to music and educational outreach.
This year’s program features performances by African drummers, dance groups, and artists, alongside remarks from local leaders and cultural dignitaries. International DJs will set the tone throughout the day, and over 70 vendors will showcase authentic Afro-Caribbean food, fashion, accessories, art, and home décor.
In addition to live entertainment, the festival will offer a Wellness and Culture Pavilion where guests can access holistic services and community resources. Families will also find a Kid Zone with interactive activities and entertainment designed for all ages.
County agencies will be onsite with resources related to health, education, and business services. Attendees are encouraged to connect with these departments throughout the day and learn more about how county programming supports diverse communities.
The African Heritage Festival has evolved into more than a one-day celebration. It serves as a cultural touchpoint, highlighting the contributions of the African diaspora while creating space for dialogue, joy, and intergenerational engagement. Its continued success reflects a growing demand for programming that honors identity, amplifies Black voices, and brings families together in a welcoming space.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early, bring folding chairs or picnic blankets, and plan to stay for the full day. Admission is free with RSVP.
