This Saturday, August 16th, 2025, families from across the city will gather at Anne Beers Elementary School (3600 Alabama Ave SE, Washington, DC) for a special back-to-school celebration hosted by Be Empowered Clothing a youth-led brand creating impact beyond apparel.
From 10 AM to 4 PM, the school grounds will transform into a high-energy space filled with games, wellness sessions, chess matches, and vibrant community pride all wrapped around one mission: helping families feel supported, prepared, and seen as they head into the new school year.
This isn’t your average backpack giveaway.
The day begins at 10:00 AM with a community chess activation, welcoming both kids and adults to join in matches that challenge the mind while building focus and confidence. At noon, the energy builds with live performances by DJ Prodigy, a guest appearance from Blaq Picasso, plus appearances from vendors, artists, and community partners.

Attendees can participate in activities hosted by Positive Chalk DC and MTA, explore creative expression, and enjoy classic outdoor fun like kickball and 2v2 basketball games. A guided meditation session at noon EST also offers families a calm moment amid the excitement.
The highlight for many: a free backpack and supply giveaway running from 12 PM to 3:45 PM, while supplies last. Families are encouraged to register on Eventbrite in advance to reserve their items. Supplies are limited, and early registration ensures fair access.

These backpacks are more than school gear — they’re a show of community care and commitment to preparing students for success.

The event also marks a growing tradition of youth-led service in DC, where local brands are stepping in to fill gaps and celebrate the city’s diverse culture. By transforming a schoolyard into a safe and welcoming hub, Be Empowered Clothing is helping redefine what the back-to-school season can look like — rooted in pride, wellness, and joy.
Families can pre-register via Eventbrite to secure their supplies. Community members, vendors, and supporters interested in contributing to future editions can connect directly through Be Empowered Clothing’s platforms.

As back-to-school season approaches, this event reminds everyone that the greatest supplies don’t just come in backpacks — they come in the form of shared experiences, neighborhood care, and spaces where all kids feel seen.
