This Two-Day DC Art Show Goes Beyond Paintings on a Wall
The Gallery Exchange brings nine artists, streetwear, merchandise, a live show, and a retail pop-up to Homme DC from July 25th and 26th.
Walk into Homme DC during The Gallery Exchange, and the first thing you may notice is that the room is not arranged for a quiet pass through.
Artwork will share space with streetwear, merchandise, a live show, and a model call. Some visitors may stop in front of a painting. Others may move toward the clothing, speak with a featured artist, or wait to see what happens next.
That movement is the point.
Presented by Ars MAG, The Gallery Exchange will take place Saturday, July 25th, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 26th, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The exhibition brings together nine artists whose work reaches across painting, mixed media, portraiture, fashion, public art, design, and street culture.
80HD works with bold color, symbolism, texture, and mixed media. Bran Cherie explores identity, memory, and emotional experience. Brian Bailey Jr. connects public art, education, and storytelling.
Chris Williams draws from graffiti, hip-hop, cartoons, commercial art, and product design. Dieglo creates bright mixed-media characters using acrylic paint and spray paint. Surreally Real uses portraiture to address race, gender, politics, spirituality, and popular culture.
Dan “Gritty” Walker, co-founder of Don’t Go Hollywood Studios, works across art, streetwear, installations, and apparel. Tariq Young brings fashion and garment design through LaVie Factory. Tone Butta creates work shaped by graffiti, hip-hop, city life, and his upbringing in Queens.
Together, the lineup gives the room several visual languages at once.
One wall may hold layered mixed-media work. Another may pull from street art or portraiture. Clothing and custom merchandise will sit alongside artwork instead of being treated as separate from it.
That is where The Gallery Exchange begins to separate itself from a standard exhibition.
The event is presented with Don’t Go Hollywood Studios, a Black-owned art and streetwear company focused on artists building careers without waiting for a major gallery, brand, or institution to decide when their work matters.
That idea is not limited to the event name. It appears in the format.
Visitors are not being asked to stand quietly, look at a wall, and leave. They can move through the room, see how each artist approaches the work, shop pieces tied to the exhibition, and stay for the live show.
Guests may also bring a completed promotional coloring sheet for a chance to receive prints, tote bags, merchandise, and other prizes while supplies last.
The exhibition is curated by Torland Greene Jr., founder and executive director of Ars MAG.
By the end of the visit, the strongest impression may not come from one artist or one piece. It may come from seeing how painting, fashion, streetwear, design, and performance can occupy the same room without one being treated as more legitimate than the others.
